Hey guys! This year we will still take our ALWAYS FUN, ALWAYS EXCITING intramural approach to The CrossFit Open and we REALLY want ALL of our members ESPECIALLY our new members to participate with us! It is truly one of the most fun, inspiring, and encouraging times of the year for us at Always Strong and I want everyone to experience it!
Here’s a word from Coach Connie about the CF Open and it’s GOOOOOOOD!
The CrossFit Open
You CrossFit. Your friends CrossFit. Your family CrossFits. The CrossFit Open is upon us! The Open is an awesome opportunity for you to throw down with your community and the rest of the WORLD. No matter what level of athlete you are, the Open is one of the biggest community building events in CrossFit and YOU should participate.
This will be my ninth year participating in the Open and I will probably sign up every year for the next 20 years. I am not the most competitive athlete. I can’t always do muscle ups and I’ve never even finished in the top 100 in any region I’ve participated in. I participate because it’s a chance to throw down with every other CrossFit junkie across the globe and create more camaraderie with my CrossFit family. Live together or die alone right?! I get to feel the same amount of suck that you and everyone else does then, smile and laugh about it once it’s over.
I know there are a lot of you who are really hesitant to sign up. Maybe you have hesitation like: you think you’re not good enough, don’t’ want to compete, or you’re unsure if you’ll be at the box every week.
Here’s the deal, before you firmly decide to skip the Open this year, hear me out. I think this is something that every CrossFitter should experience and participate in every year, as long as you’re healthy.
You are good enough. There is no such thing as “not good enough.” The workouts are designed so that most athletes can handle them OR there’s also a scaled division. You can compete with all of the athletes at your level of ability.
Don’t want to be a competitive CrossFitter? There are some competitive athletes gunning for Regionals and they will take every workout very seriously. However, the MAJORITY of participating athletes ARE NOT going to regionals. For the majority the Open is about challenging yourself, having fun and getting a taste for competition in the comfortable setting of your own gym with your own community. The Open is about you and your community, stepping up to a challenge and making memories.
It’s never been about the workouts, it’s been about being in my gym with people I know. It’s the people cheering, screaming and encouraging me to do my best that truly surprises and inspires me.
Not sure you’ll make all five weeks? Well, you miss a day here and there at the gym each week. You have 4 days to complete the workout and to recruit a buddy to suffer through it with you. And, assuming you’re not going to Regionals, missing a workout will not make or break your fitness either. Just saying.
I’ve never met anyone who has had a bad experience doing the Open. I’ve never met anyone who has regretted doing the Open. But you know what I hear from at least one athlete every year? “ I wish I would have signed up.”
