What is wellness?
the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.
Another definition I found says Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. “…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
The two definitions are very similar, but if I had to choose, I would favor the second definition. I love it because when I read it I feel like I am reading a statement about what we strive to achieve for each and every one of our members day in and day out at ASF!
Everyday your ASF coaches encourage you to make choices that will lead you toward greater health. No place is that seen more than with our nutrition clients. Our favored nutritional path focuses on whole food, plain and simple. We want people OFF the endless roller coaster of fad diets and instead to endeavor each day to consume nutrient rich foods. Not every day will be perfect, but if you can have more good days than bad you are winning!
Obviously our varied programs help to provide that physical aspect of well-being. We are a gym after all… Physical fitness is kind of what we do. Whether it’s our CrossFit classes, our Bootcamp style Burn classes, our weightlifting program, or our recently organized running club, there are plenty of options to help you get and stay physically well at ASF.
In addition to offering unmatched expertise in the field of fitness, our coaches are often called upon to perform duties more often associated with a psychologist than with a fitness professional. Our coaches understand the incredibly important role that mental and social wellness play in ones overall health. We could be Ken and Barbie flaunting the best physique in town, but if we are not mentally healthy or socially engaged, we cannot truly be fully well. Humans are relational, communal beings and without meaningful relationships we cannot thrive.
Wellness — what an evasive state to truly achieve. At ASF we want to be a vital part of your wellness journey. If you have been with us for a while, and just can’t seem to get where you want to be, perhaps you are missing one of these above aspects of wellness. If you would like to discuss your situation and set some specific goals with which we can begin to map out a whole wellness plan, let us know! You can even schedule a No Sweat Goal Setting session! We would love to help you achieve your BEST WELLNESS EVER!
